Of course my hand can't pass through a solid object.

But my mind can percieve solid objects in many subtle different ways, some which feel as unreal as stumling on a stone that was never there before or having a bird shit on your head in a place where no birds have been seen.  In your mind is there not distress when basic assumptions about anything are thrown off.  That fear, that is what I mean.  As when someone dies that you are close to.  How do we face that suddenly as in an accident that they are gone.
