I think Carter's speech in 1979 was full of accuarate remarks predicting what America would be dealing with even today.

Rarely does a president speak so honestly with out softening or distorting the message if ever.  My reaction is that Reagan no doubt heard this and effected him and his presidency.  With Bush Senior we expected more Reagan, but this was not to be and for me this is when the crisis became more and more of a nightmare.  He only stayed in office for four years and might have known that he only had that time just as Carter seemed to.  Clinton like Reagen also lasted eight years.  Who do you think contributed to the country more Reagen or Clinton?  Not thinking about the Gore/Bush election?  Try writing an essay or a poem about it maybe?
