Dear Shakespeare,

Thank you for the amazing poetry and plays you made way back when.  Also Will, you outdid us all for many generations.  Now everyone has felt inferior to you in some way.  Sure people have tried to do better than you, but alas have failed.  Rilke failed, Yeats failed ect..

 

Now it is 2014 and we want to get out of your shadow.  Even a Poet Laureate of the United States recently said MFA students were not really doing better than non-educated poets.  This must have pissed off the universities, but it had to be said. 

 

I say then we learn from you Mister Shakespeare as we must and from those people whose shadow you were living under as well and finally caste off the shadows.
