What was happening in Atlantis?

In the central wall were the greater ones.  What were they doing behind two giant walls?  It looks like a form of intentional isolating.  What reason would they choose to isolate themselves and from their own kind?  Assuming that the two inner walls were the same people,  maybe not?  Why did they not leave the island to other places?  Or did they migrate of to Egypt?  There is no record of any migrations.  That  what they were doing on the island was enough to keep them there.  What could cause the superiors in the middle of the island to spiral inward?  We know if a lot of production were happening or too many births were happening the island would not be able to continue, so the pursuits were not about material productivity and there must have been population control.  Either they were creative or contemplative or something like that.  For some odd reason they did not tire of doing this and everything else seems completely mysterious.  The travels they did not require boats as they were traveling beyond the minds eye.   The computer animation that began computer animation seems to have a similar spirit of deep inner exploration.  Some writings do.   In fact being a scribe during ancient times was no easy task.  All the way up into the time of the printing press things were very different and now with computers it is changed again.  This is why I think it is compelling to go look at writings that were around before the printing press.  In Alexandria before the burning of the library people were sometimes even killed for the writing they owned.  It was a different world.  Ignorance was not a joke is likely.  People in those times who had the luxury were very learned is likely.  That it was very esteemed to have gone way beyond ignorance.  Scary if you look at what we may be getting, but think about how many people online are going beyond mindless entertainment.  People who are not into doing what seems like a waste of their time and energy.  And then it is possible to see how the distant past is connected with the future.
