Don't have much expectations about the place that will be impossible almost to fulfill.

If you travel alone be extra safe.

Areas with poverty may appear a bit threatening.

It is best to places that match your town to some extent in terms of weather and population and beliefs and even better if it is closer to home.

Places with familiar and loved businesses are also desirable.

If the place doesn't feel very friendly and or comfortable leave.
